gulfnews.com According to Nawaz Sharif, Kargil happened without his knowledge and resulted in wiping out Pakistan's Northern Light Infantry, with a lose of 2700 soldiers. He also says that Vajpayee was ready to find mutually acceptable solution to Kashmir. It appears that Kargil was staged by the Pakistani Army under Musharraf with the express purpose of derailing such a solution. Peace between India and Pakistan would make the Pakistani Army irrelevant and they would lose their grip on power.
