As reported today on the nationally broadcast Ed Shultz Show part of the Jones Radio Network, former U.S. Weapons Inspector, Scott Ritter declared that the Bush administration helped subvert and manipulate the recent heralded election in Iraq. According to Ritter, who made the original charges in a joint appearence with journalist Dahr Jamil in Washington state, the Bush administration was determined to control the outcome of the Iraq vote at all costs. "The U.S. cooked the election in Iraq," claimed Ritter. Ritter went on to explain how the victory of the Shia was a forgone conclusion to Administration members. What wasn't a foregone conclusion was the percentage of victory. A majority victory of the Shia would give them control of the Parliament and under current Iraqi law allow the Iranian-influenced Mullahs to draw up the new Constitution (the current one was written by the U.S.). The Mullahs have made public statements indicating their intention to base the new Constitution on strict Koran law (Sharia) not unlike the infamous Taliban in Afganistan. This could not be allowed by the Bush Administration as complete Shiite control would create multiple additional problems for the Adminstration in Washington. In an additional interview posted today with Raw Story. com, rawstory.com Ritter explained, "For three days after the election the Shia were saying they had 60% of the vote. The election results came in and the Shia got 60% of the vote." This percentage gave the Shia total Parliamentary control and more annoyingly to the U.S. occupation forces, the legal right to draft a new Constitution as they saw fit. "Suddenly, we have a secret recount and ballots appear, disappear. This is not Florida and you don't have TV cameras holding up the chads in front of everybody," explained Ritter. Prime Minister Allawi, a U.S. creation and reviled by almost all Iraqis for cooperating with their occupiers, received between 2-5% of the vote (and sources indicate even that may be invented). Ritter continued, "Suddenly the Shia have 48% of the vote and Allawi has 13%. Alawi is now a viable force and can deny the Shia control. This is what was wanted from the beginning." Many had wondered why Allawi, whose campaign was so reviled by the Iraqis, had run at all.
They don't have to wonder any longer.
