Distributed power will help. Right now, the economics are only right for critical (six sigma) applications -- hospitals, banks, ISPs, Phone companies.

The transmission problem needs a new Federal Policy for resolution. NIMBY rules everywhere. We have a lot of generation capacity but it is becoming increasingly more difficult to move the power where it is needed. There is a transmission line going from CT to Long Island that is only used when the need is critical. Already built, but not permitted due to NIMBY. The same situation exists in CA from San Diego to LA.

There is some new technology for improving line capacity out there. In the near-term, the ones that improve the strength of the lines while they heat up will be implemented. The superconductor solutions are not ready yet -- if ever.
