Maybe. It's hard to prove that when it didn't happen, though. It's more interesting when violence goes up than when it goes down- because people like reading about violence. That's why serial killers get top billing, and their own movies. This isn't so much political, as driven by the consumer. Most consumers of news wants sex or violence, or even better sex AND violence. So even if you are correct, I still think it's more about catering to the fears of the public- that sells newspapers, and elected Bush, people love their fears. Lack of fear, and good news, people are not so interested in.
