CompactPCI System Host Running Under Red Hat Linux
CARROLLTON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 7, 2000--Blue Wave Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:BWSI - news), a leading supplier of processing technology for next-generation communication infrastructures, will for the first time demonstrate its ComStruct(TM) high density Voice and Fax over IP solution with a Linux-based system host single board computer at Fall 2000 Voice on the Net(TM) (VON). The demonstration features Linux from Red Hat, Inc. (NASDAQ:RHAT - news) and Blue Wave's ComStruct CPCI/C5421 - which includes the programmable TMS320C5421(TM) digital signal processor (DSP) platform from Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE:TXN - news), and Telogy Software(TM) products for Voice and Fax over IP applications in a carrier grade chassis.

According to International Data Corporation (IDC), Linux is the fastest growing operating environment on the server market (IDC Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker, April 2000). The open source operating system is also making significant inroads into telecom infrastructure developments. The ComStruct demonstration will be shown running under various operating systems (Windows NT(TM), Solaris(TM), Linux) at four exhibitor booths to provide voice over IP gateway and fax relay gateway capability between Blue Wave Systems Inc. booth No. 139 and those of Motorola Computer Group (NYSE:MOT - news), No. 154/255, Sun Microsystems Inc. (NASDAQ:SUNW - news), No. 240/242, and Texas Instruments No. 532/633.

``Through its UNIX heritage, Linux has a rich history in the telephony market and is now increasingly being adopted for carrier-grade applications,'' said Brian Carr, Product Manager at Blue Wave Systems. ``Thanks to its open source model, Linux gives developers the unique ability to customize and differentiate their products at an operating system level.''

The ComStruct Voice/Fax/Data over IP solution provides OEMs with 120 channels of voice, fax relay and V.90 modem within a single CompactPCI(c) slot in a proven, integrated deployment platform. Blue Wave Systems created this combined solution in partnership with Texas Instruments in order to allow their mutual customers to bring products to market more quickly, with reduced development risk and cost. Blue Wave's ComStruct product line also supports Linux solutions from Caldera Systems, Inc.

The premier event for the VoIP industry, the Fall 2000 VON conference will take place September 11-14 at the Cobb Galleria located at Two Galleria Parkway in Atlanta, GA, USA.
