I don't agree with the first part of your statement, because you are forgetting all the major atrocities Iran has committed against the US without any response from the US. For example, Suleimani orchestrated the attack against our embassy in Benghazi and captured, tortured, and killed our ambassador, while Hillary sat back and watched, refusing to give the order to our special forces to fly in and get him out. The reason for this was that Obama also made a deal with Suleimani to get help against the Sunni terrorists. It was a deal with the devil. So Trump's targeting of Suleimani was retribution and preventative.
As to high level people being on their toes in the Middle East, absolutely. Iran took the gloves off on diplomats when they killed our Benghazi ambassador. Trump FINALLY took the gloves off and killed Iran's top general. So now we both have our gloves off. I am glad that the US has sent the message that we will no longer allow Iran to behave badly with impunity and that we will no longer let them hide behind their terror proxies. Trump just put the elephant on the table, instead of pretending like Iran is a "good" country like Obama did. Bullshit. Iran is a terrible country. Their leaders are total shit and they are terrorists.
Your last sentence, I completely agree with. This gets me back to something I've said for decades on these threads. The US is our own worst enemy. If we take the Iran and US relationship all the way back to the beginning, what happened to start this war? Was it the hostages in the Carter era? Nope. It was when Russia and the UK invaded Iran during WW2 to steal their oil, even after Iran had declared themselves a neutral country to the war. Then later they elected a leader, who nationalized their oil, to get it back for the Iranian people. Then the US CIA came in and instigated a coup against that Democratically elected leader, and installed our puppet, the Shah of Iran. The Iranian Revolution then occurred to overthrow the Shah, who was in reality a brutal dictator, and then they took our hostages. Then Reagan responded with strength and they let them go...and the rest is history. In other words, WE in the West started the Iranian hostilities. We start everything in the Middle East and then cry boo hoo, when they fight back.
Now, don't get me wrong. I am no apologists for the Islamic terrorists that live there. I think the whole region is bat shit crazy and homicidally inclined. That is why, I believe if we had REALLY smart and historically informed leadership, we'd get the hell out of there and never go back. BTW, we pull the same kind of crap all over Latin America. The US creates enemies by toppling Democratically elected governments we don't like, installing dictators, and then getting mad at the country because their dictators are homicidal lunatics. We are our own worst enemies. The best solution is pull ALL of our troops back from all over the world. Stop policing the world and start using our military for defense and for punitive measures when necessary. No nation building. Only defense and punitive.
This killing of Suleimani is a victory and can be used to walk away from the Middle East while saving face. I wish Trump would take this opportunity. But I fear that our Military Industrial Complex that has bought and paid for almost all members of Congress, the CIA, FBI, and Pentagon, will simply not allow Trump to do it. In fact, I think they are trying to impeach him, precisely because he started the withdrawal in Syria and is reluctant to engage in big wars in the Middle East. The MIC can't stand Trump, even though he's spent trillions on them, because he has held back from the bigger wars they want in Syria and Iran. Hell, Secretary Mattis quit over Trump's attempted withdrawal from Syria. We'll see what Trump will do now. Will he take advantage of this historic opportunity to withdraw? |
