Jim, I think that if some of us drove electical vehicles, and our public transit systems were better developed, and we walked and rode bikes for short trips, and there was a much higher tax on gasoline in America, like there is in Europe, and cars were smaller and consumed less gasoline, we would be much less dependent upon the Middle East for its oil.

What is your opinion? There is still oil in the ground, but it is not really a renewable resource. We are going to have to use less of it somehow. How would you solve the problem?

P.S. I think I agree with you totally about the tax structure. A national sales tax or a flat rate income tax both seem preferable to the tax code we have. They seem to be the only possibilities where special interest groups have no opportunity to lobby and again create all the exemptions, credits, etc. that have made U.S. taxes so complex!!
