Smallmouth are the best fighting fish, imo. I had no experience of them when I moved up north, but grew to respect them very quickly.

A two-pound smallmouth will say "okay it's you and me you bastard, show me what you've got!"

While a seven-pound largemouth will say "okay, I'm tired, please fillet me or release me, whatever you want."
