KLP, re: So, cnyn Ed, you want the Iraqi's to fail? Or is it the US you want to fail?

Are you so one sided you've gotten stupid? Of course I don't want the U.S. to fail or the Iraqis to fail. What's that got to do with it? Do you think the soldiers risking their lives there want to fail? Do you think they want the Iraqis to fail? Of course not but that's what they're warning us about.

Why not try on some of the FACTS in the article and see how they fit with a cheerleader's rah rah approach to solving problems. How about that the last "Iraqi army group deserted en masse and many of them took their weapons with them? Do you think Rumsfeld is still counting them as "trained Iraqi forces?" How about the fact that our men were especially assigned to train these men and they think they're worthless and not going to get any better anytime soon? How about the fact that our Iraqis which we are training "admire" the insurgents and think the problems in their country are "the Americans?" How about the fact that the Iraqis volunteered for ..... drum beat..."the money?"

How long can you put lipstick on that pig before people sober up and take a good look? Just like with Pat Tillman when the army finally told the truth because they knew his outfit was coming back to the states and they couldn't keep the lid on it any longer, sooner or later the truth will come out. This is the start.

And don't tell me that only 4 provinces are a problem. The Iraqis and the Americans know that security is a problem throughout almost all of Iraq. In addition, the "4 provinces" just happen to be the major population areas and at the center of Iraqi business, culture and religion.

The bottom line is that we're sending our young on a stupid mission and that they're getting killed and wounded based on intentionally misleading, rosy statements.

So how much do you really care about the men and women that are getting killed and wounded there? How much do you really care about the men and women that are coming home with serious and long term fears and nightmares that will change their lives? Do you care enough to look for the truth or do you simply "care" for them as long as you can use the "support our troops" slogan to stifle criticism of our aggressive, power tilted and sloganeering Republican leadership?

Let's see if anyone on this inbred board is willing to consider the facts presented in that article. I'm not counting you KLP because all you've done so far is question my patriotism. Instead of attacking the conduit or the messenger, let's see if you can attack the message? If you or any of the other knee jerk posters here are willing to do so, then we can have a conversation.

How about you Uncle? I know you despise anything non Republican but do you also despise Republicans who send our troops to fight, kill and die in foolish missions that are poorly conceived, poorly planned and poorly executed? How about you Lindy Bill? You seem to post every article that cheerleads this administration but do you read and consider well researched and thoughtful reports that undermine the very basis for our continued large military presence in Iraq? Ed

PS, and yes, I would say that nothing substantial can be done in Africa-BY US-to change their customs and belief system. The people of each nation must find their own way to enlightenment and a foreign power using force to try to hasten the progress is not a fix. When they get to a tilting place we can help, if asked. Until then they will oppress each other and if we help the underdog become stronger it's likely the underdog will act just as cruelly. It's been that way for centuries and it won't change until their "customs and belief system" changes.
