Two years ago, the right-wing British National Party, whose Web site now features a "Campaign Against Islam," won 24 percent of the vote in a local election. His followers see recreating the caliphate - the era of Islam's ascendancy after the death of Muhammad in the eighth century - as the answer to Muslims', and the world's, problems. They often sound like nothing so much as young Marxists of another era.
