CB, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. That must have hurt, to lose a vibrant life in such a vicious event.
I feel the same was as you, when it comes to the beauty of what mankind has, and can, build, but I do not hold them as being sacred. There are things that some people hold in a special place in their heart because of an event that included that object which changed that person's life. It's not the object, itself, that may be considered sacred, but is the special circumstances related to it during some event. Yes, the flag is a symbol, but some symbols mean more to some, than it does to other because of these events.
In discussions, I do have a tendency to get a bit intense, but am used to debating with people that can hold their end of the the rope. My intention is not to hurt, but to get my point across in a manner that cannot be mistaken for wavering from my point of view. In that respect, I think a bit like Truman. If someone wants to get into a discussion about any topic, "if they can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". :^)
I don't mean that in a bitter way, but expect anyone to carry their weight in a debated, or discussion, and realize that the heat of the debate is not meant to be personal. |
