What Canadian guy? Anyway, the confusion is that people think that using the 5 letter US pink symbol means you are buying and have to buy on the pinks. Those 5 letters serve the purpose of distinguishing symbols in the US from symbols in Canada. Take for instance, First Majestic, a Canadian silver stock. The symbol is FR. But in the US, FR is some real estate fund, an entirely different company. Hence, FMJRF is used in the US to indicate First Majestic. With the old Ameritrade, you can enter online FMJRF and buy First Majestic on Toronto. So yes, you would use the 5 letter symbol, but you are buying in Canada.
