I don't know if you have read any of the posts on the moderated thread before you made these comments but both Mani and Chic have both taken pains to make it clear that they do not want to function as the thread's moderators. They thought that a thread with some basic standards was a good idea so they started one but they have stated explicitly that anyone can post anything as long as they follow two rules:

1) no personal attacks
2) no off topic

As to what constitutes a violation of these rules and how the thread would actually be moderated they have stated that they would like the posters and participants to be the collective judges.

So the moderated thread is not exclusive, anyone can post anything as long as their posts are deemed to have value by the collective determination of the thread (community) this is the very nature of democracy. government by the governed.

The moderated thread is not, as you suggest, the difference between freedom and autocracy. Instead it is the difference between anarchy and democracy.
