Future

The bottom line figures reported for first half 1999 are primarily accounting losses, and the future may be looking brighter for the firm as the most recent net loss figures are a marked improvement against the previous years. i-Cable already has in place the cable network which will allow it to take advantage of a potentially much more lucrative broadband market, and with its fibre optic network which is in the final stages of development, the company is set to launch high-speed internet access services in early 2000.

However, the company set the IPO offer price at the top end of the range thus giving IPO investors less room for gain while locking in maximum benefit for itself. Combined with applying 80% of the proceeds to paying back debt due to the parent and associated companies, this does not appear to necessarily be the best way to reward shareholders. On the other hand, by paying down the debt, i-Cable should be able to be profitable at an earlier stage as earnings won't be dragged down by the interest payments incurred through a heavy debt burden. For some investors, this share offers to much risk for too little expected gain.
