US Bancorp Piper Jaffray

NEW YORK, June 27 (New Ratings) — Analyst Thomas Wei of US Bancorp Piper Jaffray initiates coverage of Gen-Probe Inc (GPRO) with a "strong buy" rating. The target price is set to $56.

In a research note published this afternoon, the analyst mentions that Gen-Probe is attractively positioned to benefit from a large growth opportunity in the blood screening market in partnership with Chiron Corporation. In addition, the analyst anticipates an accelerated operating margins growth for the company over the coming years. US Bancorp Piper Jaffray expects the forthcoming royalty gains from Chiron to significantly boost Gen-Probe's earnings gains in 2003.
