I have a very good PC for my parents...

For the first time I've started up a Windows 7 PC.
This is a Dell Inspiron 580s with a G6950 and 4 Gigs
of RAM--really designed to lay flat under the monitor
which is how I set it up. This is the ideal PC for
my Mom, she may even end up with it someday soon.

The thing booted up fine, no problems hooking up
to the internet, only a couple of annoyances from
preinstalled McAfee, such as sending up a security
alarm...about itself. Then registration for it,
which takes some effort to ignore and would probably
suck in seniors who might not be ablt to figure out
how to close the window.

I haven't run it through its paces yet. It does seem
unfamiliar I've got so used to XP. Not sure I will
like it better than Linux Mint which I've had for a
couple months.

But I had to give it a go--found the PC on the Dell
Outlet for just $300 a week or two ago. Seems like
a very good alternative to my Pentium D which runs
a little hot.

So what I'm doing with it is...found an abandoned
cubicle at work (full of empty boxes and trash)
cleaned out an area for myself, plugged an ethernet
cable lying on the carpet--half an hour later
I have a better PC than most of the others in the
office. They'll probably tell me to take it away
or allow our IT staff to despoil it, but what the
heck, worth a try. I don't have access to the
office lan or printers--but that is no great loss, ha.
