Mani...here's from a conversation we had back on July 10.

Ed re <<Did you know how many ads there were for 1GHz Intel machines? I was looking at it the other day, and I don't remember seeing even one.>>

Many, I am not going to count them all but I would say at least 20, probably more.

This is from the just released edition, it is not on the news stand yet, only to subscribers.

Mani...I have a subscription to Computer Shopper. I went back over the July issue page by page and could not find even one. Please look again cause I don't know where you got at least 20. I got today's Computer Shopper for August and found only one Pentium 1GHz machine in the whole magazine). This is advertised on page 268 (a little company called Adamant Computers). On the other hand there were literally dozens of ads for 1Ghz Athlons. Some companies like CyberMax were advertising Athlons up to 1 Ghz with performance enhancing cache (Thunderbird). This hasn't hit the newstands yet, so I would call it pretty up to date.
I don't know about you guys, but this has gone on for months and doesn't jive with any of the information Paul and Elmer keep trying to pass on. You know the old argument, Ramp is fine, Intel is shipping thousands of high-end processors. Where are those 1Ghz Pentium iiis, and where the hell does Paul think he's going to get a 1.13 Ghz Pentium iii? I know a lot of you guys don't read computer magazines as if they are the read by only the dregs of computer society, but I think this is pretty significant. Does anyone actually call those companies on Pricewatch to see if Pentium iiis are available at 1 Ghz?

Regards
Ed P.
