Walter, You are really confusing your security technologies. The use of smartcards to authorize access does not compete with an encryption algorithm. If Jaws wanted to, they could provide a smartcard-based access solution that also does L5 encryption, and IBM could use L5 as their encryption algorithm with smartcard access product if they were so inclined.
