Bad judgement runs in the Thomas family. law.com In any case, it should be obvious to all that the Court's legitimacy depends greatly upon its perceived detachment. If the justices come to be regarded as political players, their opinions will be seen as instrumental rather than principled. Thus it is axiomatic that the Court must remain painstakingly aloof from political combat. TP
