I dont see the logic here - why destroy 1200 houses, when it could be used by 1200 families ?

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Israel and the Palestinian Authority have agreed that the 1,200 homes to be abandoned when Jewish settlers leave Gaza this summer will be destroyed by Israel, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday.

"Israel and the Palestinian Authority agree that the settler homes in Gaza should be removed, therefore the parties will work toward a plan for destruction and clean up," Rice said.

Rice spoke to reporters in Jerusalem just before leaving for Jordan, a day after arriving for meetings with leaders in Israel and the West Bank.

Secretary Rice said both sides agreed to cooperate "to ensure a peaceful disengagement and create the conditions for economic viability and hope for the Palestinian people."

Israel and the Palestinian Authority also agreed to work to ensure the flow of people and goods into and out of Gaza, Rice said.
