OT Hi WTY,

RE: "Semi rural. Typically 1-5+ acre lots."

That sounds nice. I grew up on an acre lot that was filled with oak trees. Everyone had a forest as their "yard", rather than manicured lawns, so, when taken together, the lawns made it a forested area. It was really nice. I'm obviously biased towards trees.

RE: " Most have oil heat as primary source. Definitely no gas lines. Power is lost quite often. We once had a major snowstorm in early Oct. ...I was without power for 4 1/2 days (Oil lamps, candles, cooking on the coal stove) It makes you really wonder how people got along without electricity. I even had to go down to the creek to get a pail of water to be able to flush the toilet. Now that's roughing it."

That is definitely roughing it. But it sounds fun to be able to have the skillsets to rely on oneself and the basics to get by. I'm learning how to do more serious hiking. The Sunday after my Dad had his surgery, I took a really good hike up in the mountains for a few hours (cleared my head) and learned how to read a GS map for the first time. It was really exciting to use the GS map and a compass to determine exactly where we were. (I went with a friend who is an expert hiker.)

Regards,
Amy J
