Unlikely. As much as I want to see saddam gone, I don't see a rapid fall if saddam decides to fight. Believe me, been there seen that. Superior firepower means little in these situations.

According to various news sources, saddam is using only his most loyal divisions of the Iraqi army to defend the city. Veterans of the first Gulf war have said that these guys put up fierce resistance and did not turn tail and run as the regular Iraqi army did.
So, if there is going to be a fight for the city, it will be a very bloody one on both sides. I really really hope that it does not come to that and that somehow Saddam is taken out by his generals before any more Iraqis can suffer.
