Islamabad: For Pakistan the 'war against terrorism' may have entered yet another difficult phase as US forces have demanded the right to hot pursuit to continue action against fled away Al Qaeda fighters crossing over into Pakistan.

After the incident in Kurran agency where al Qaida fighters captured by Pakistani forces turned tables and entered into a gun fight withy security forces on Wednesday, US command has decided to follow a policy of hot pursuit.

Pakistan reportedly has tacitly agreed to the demand and the hot pursuit by the US forces may mean allowing troops to hunt the fighters on the ground and fire on them from the air.

This is not a blanket acceding to demands.

United States forces will have to inform the Pakistani authorities before each action, a Pakistani source said.

Hundreds of al Qaida fighters have tried to escape into Pakistan after the fall of Tora Bora caves that were bombed by US forces and on the ground anti- Taliban forces pushed to claim territory.

Pakistani forces have picked up hundreds of al Qaida member during the last week.

US forces have already halted aerial bombing on Tora Bora caves to allow ground forces to search through the caves and tunnels.

Although local Afghan sources claim that al Qaida fighters have left the area but US still suspects that many may be lurking around in the complex.

U S Marines are also likely to be sent to the area to launch an extensive search.

Osama bin Laden, enemy No. 1, for USA remains elusive.

There are no clear clues about his whereabouts.

Even US forces do not exactly know whether he has slipped out of the area or he is dead or alive.
