Joe, yours is a funny post. Your logic is strange to say the least. Let us take a look at some of your points.
<<Do you know that Microsoft practically (sic) ripping off its customer by totally changing Window (sic) Nt (sic) 3.51 that has the feel and look (sic) of Window (sic) 3.1 to the feel and look (sic) of the (sic) Window (sic) 95? >>
Since when upgrading to a better user interface means the consumer is being ripped off?
<<In doing so, it now want hundreds of dollars for the upgrade.>>
You can upgrade to NT 4.0 by mail order for about $139. An Apple partisan accusing Microsoft of charging high prices is simply ridiculous. Few companies have gouged their customers more than Apple. In the good old days their margins were always in the stratosphere. What is happening now to Apple is bad karma from their excessive greed. By the way, the Apple cult was and still is a nice way of making a bunch of naive people overpay for slow hardware.
<<At least Apple has the decency to make sure that its OS is totally backward compatible unlike windows (sic) 3.1, NT 3.51, ... and now NT 4.0.>>
Of course, since Apple has not made any significant changes to its OS since the Middle Ages of computing. Microsoft offered an operating system with preemptive multitasking, memory protection, and C2 security. Some compatibility had to be sacrificed. If Apple some day offers the same features it will also have to sacrifice some compatibility. In fact, I believe Apple is now stating that their new OS will not be 100% compatible with some existing software. If this turns out to be true, do you think that Apple's behavior would be indecent? (I don't think it would, but just look at your quote above)
I made already a bit of money shorting Apple and I am covering tomorrow. The risk/reward ratio is not that good any more. But still you can find hundreds of better stocks to be long, if your objective is to make money. If your objective is to be on the side of the good guys against the dark forces of evil (Wintel) then stay long Apple, you will get a lot of emotional satisfaction, which will also compensate you for the condition of poverty you will be in.
Since I have been defending Microsoft in this post, I want to make clear my opinion with regards to that company: I think Microsoft will also be hurt by technological decisions they made in the past. I am talking about the MFC, which is an unbelievable mess. Java is exploding and will take over the world. It remains to be seen if Microsoft can ride that wave.
Best regards. |
