What is your definition?

very similar to yours Neeka. i believe being conservative means following the constitution. the constitution greatly limits federal power. i think following the constitution also automatically brings with it fiscal conservatism. the reason for that is that it greatly restrains government spending. of course 'progressive' politicians have found a way around that.

i also think most of the founders would have scoffed at the idea that the federal government should have the right to decide social matters like abortion. social 'conservatism' seems like a form of socialism to me. i want the federal government to stay out of all social matters. i want us to be free. let the states decide these matters and people will vote with their feet. we can't vote with our feet if the federal government decides.

i have a tougher time defining 'liberal', but i think you pretty much nailed that too.
