Zeev the commotion in the Arab world and their hasty support for Arafat must be evaluated trough the light of their own Arab oppressive regimes. Non of the Arab countries in the ME have true democratic elected leaders they all rule by oppressive means.

IMHO Mubarak and other so called "elected" Arab governments are very worried about the prospect that the PLO "elected" leader will be deposed (kicked out) by a true democratic countries ----- Israel and the US --------- as the same may happen to them.

The new developments in Afghanistan (election of government by consensus) even if slightly removed from the ME made them already nervous due to the probability of an emerging democracy in Afghanistan and cessation of the rule of war lords....... not to mention the taliban

All the warnings related to unrest in the ME may be true not due to the Israeli Arab dispute but more related to the fact that the constituents in Egypt for example will grasp the possibility of deposing Mubarak.

That is why Mubarak and others IMHO will do all possible to keep Arafat in power and not for the love of the PLO.

True democracy is the worst enemy for the present Arab governments
