Hi, Holly!!! Thanks for dropping by the Feelings thread with your thoughts on the Kennedy assassination, and welcome!!!

I have read a lot of the sources you cite, as has Lyle obviously, and I think we all agree on much of the information about Kennedy. I understand that Jack's dad gave Jackie $1,000,000 to stay in the marriage. I think where we are disagreeing is what happened at the assassination itself. The original A&E program I was talking about was called Investigative Reports, and was produced very recently, based on recently released documents. It sounded very factual to me (I have been accused of gullibility before, so I try to be skeptical). From the perspective of the program, there were two assassins in a coordinated hit, one on the grassy knoll. The Mafia group in charge was from New Orleans, because it is their territory, but Castro ordered the hit. The intriguing question to me is whether the CIA was involved in this one, as it was in the attempt on Castro several months earlier WITH the mob. There was lots of documentation in the program about Jack Ruby's Mafia ties--he ran a strip joint and was a minor player. He needed to silence Oswald.

You know, there was Mafia involvement with Joseph P. Kennedy when he ran booze into America from Canada, as I recall, during Prohibition. This is how the Kenney fortune was made. There is lots of documentation now that the Mafia threw the election in Chicago, which just barely put JFK over the top. Then after the election, John totally dropped Frank Sinatra from his list of friends--the whole Rat Pack had Mafia ties. Frank was so angry he smashed his helicopter landing pad with a hammer after he was informed JFK was NOT coming to see him in Palm Springs for the weekend, and was dropping his association. The Mafia felt very close to the Kennedys, and lost face when they realized John used them only when convenient. When Bobby, who was Attorney General and much more self-righteous than everyone else in their family, went after them legally to destroy them, it was just too much. They had lots of motivation to kill JFK. The A&E documentary portrays Bobby as anguished after the assassination because he felt responsible. I think you might enjoy this program--I am sure it will be repeated.

My reference to Gerald Ford was a recent newspaper article. Documents just declassified show him as insisting that the report of Kennedy's neck wounds be changed. (This is the ONLY change he requested in the Warren Report.) The angle, and where the bullet hit would reveal whether a second assassin was involved, where the bullet came from (the grassy knoll?), and whether one bullet could have done that much damage to Connally and JFK (probably not)! Anyway, in response to the declassified documents, Ford came forward a couple of weeks ago and said he just wanted to make the report CLEARER when he insisted it be edited. This sounds quite fishy to me . . .

This is an exciting topic for me. I think most Americans don't believe the conclusions of the Warren Report, from what I have read. Please tell us more any time!!
