I agree. The timing sucks. EMLX probably felt that after it aggressively raised expectations during the last quarter, it better provide early warning. Unfortunately, if everybody does this type of updates, the whole environment is going to be even more short-term oriented and it's going to end up robbing companies of their ability to adjust to changes within a quarter.

Compaq is the main culprit here, IMO. Its build plan was too aggressive. Interestingly, Brocade, which derives 31% of its revenues from Compaq and about 11% from IBM (Sequent), is claiming that it's still on track to meet its aggressive growth targets. QLGC, whose major OEMs are Sun, HWP, IBM, Compaq and NTAP, has also come out and indicated that it is not seeing the same push-outs as EMLX.

Well, it looks like it's up to EMC, which has at least 3 chances at 3 technology conferences this week, to settle everybody down.
