Intel has screwed up launch after launch after launch, and the stock holders haven't suffered too much

I really wonder what happens now that Intel has investment gains factored in as part of their "revenue". If the market remains depressed will Intel get hammered next quarter for missing their revenue target due to investment losses? Or will they argue that the gains are OK to be treated as revenue but the losses must be treated as one time charges?
