To all: If you go to - techweb.com and use the search function for Sedona AND Oracle - there is a series of articles or reports on Oracle's project - code named Sedona. After reading through these it appears from some perspectives that Oracle is betting the farm on applications which relate to Oracle 8 and their Sedona project. It also seems the functional descriptions of these projects during beta testing has perhaps morphed towards the strongholds of Sedona GeoServices technology (as I read it). Some analysts claim Oracle is really biting off a difficult piece of work - although according to articles there is evidence of institutional dependance on Oracle services which is providing them with confidence to lead the way. Perhaps Sedona GeoServices is very important to Oracle after all - ??? Thank you George Gray. Informix and Sybase are mentioned as Oracle's biggest competitors in some of this stuff involving the Sedona project - so if that is the case - its interesting that Sybase is listed as a Sedona partner on their web page. As far as publicity goes - if this Oracle deal is to be significant to SCNG - and Oracle obviously considers it very significant - it stands to reason that Oracle - for whatever marketing or development reasons - might be the one dictating the timing of releases on the subject. Perhaps we are missing the mark on news releases - since much of Sedona's stuff is meant for inclusion in other products - it may be the release of those other products by other companies which will generate the news - and not necessarily when SCNG knows Sedona stuff will be packaged with them. Who knows - there must be some reason for our mushroom status. Any thoughts - or has the long winter taken its toll on my brain? Mike in Alaska
