On the contrary, I strongly believe the more scalability and performance the more Sun will gain. Just think about it, the world is going toward internet computing. e-commerce, is a HUGE market. Do you really think companies involved in this market are willing to play with a toy like NT, or with the real thing coming from Sun which has the optimum performance and scalability?! And if you think Microsoft is eventually going to make NT as scalable as UNIX then you must also believe that the world is coming to an end tomorrow!

Even if Microsoft had the technology to make NT as good as UNIX when it comes to performance and scalability, it will not do so since what would the point of having a cheap OS be?! Certainly as NT goes up in price to match UNIX, why on earth companies want to buy NT instead of UNIX? It is sort of like the same argument for not buying NCs! If a NC cost almost as much as a sub $1000 PC, why on earth would anyone want to buy NC?"!

Anyway, both Microsoft and Sun will gain greatly. The intelligent thing, IMHO of course, is not to become fanatical about one over another.
