I believe Dem Kent Conrad did the same - altho w/ a different twist - he said he would not run again if the budget was not in balance - and it wasn't when he broke his pledge.

Moynihan ran in 1988 pledging that it was his last term. He ran for two more w/o a single mention in the NYTimes about him breaking his word.

And Clinton ran for governor in 1990, lying, saying he would serve out his term if re-elected.
