People who choose to accentuate the "threat of NT" often ignore the fact that Unix is a moving target. Just as Microsoft is working to improve the scalability and reliability of NT, so Sun is working to improve both those attributes of Solaris, and also its ease of use (which is often put forth as a weakness -- actually, I think NT and Solaris are similarly difficult/easy to deal with, and it's more a function of what you're familiar with). There is no assurance that Microsoft will EVER catch up.

My personal impression is that I'd rather have the task of making a reliable and scalable OS user-friendly by adding GUI utilities than that of making an unreliable, but allegedly user-friendly, one suitable for use in mission-critical applications.

I think the epiphany is happening TODAY.

JMHO, of course.
