Hi janet,

Methionine is useful for many purposes including rebuilding injured tissue, strengthening the immune system, and as an antioxidant. It is one of the 20 Amino Acids used by our bodies as a basic building block. It isn't widly recommended by the medical community, although my veternarian was very familiar with it. Interestingly, the cattle and chicken industry regularly supplement the feed with Methionine, and it was once in baby formula. It shouldn't hurt to try it.

A couple of years back, my cat broke his leg bone right in half. Because of his old age, the vet had doubts that it would heal. I ground up a tablet and put it in his food. Instead of his normal lethargic eating behavior, he devoured the food enthusiastically as soon as he smelled it. It has an odor not unlike cabbage. His leg healed normally. I realize this is not scientific, but it is an interesting cat testimonial non the less.
