This is a positive step, Allawi is getting results. from debka:

Egypt’s Imam Tantawi [of Al Azhar] urges Iraqi insurgents to call one-month truce

July 1, 2005, 4:09 PM (GMT+02:00)

In his Friday sermon, Tantawi urged Iraqi Sunnis to stop their attacks for one month. He declared resistance to occupation is permissible but “killing your Iraqi brothers and blowing up an Iraqi oil pipeline is not resisting the enemy but killing yourself.”

Al Azhar is influential. It's something to have any part of suicide bombing declared suicide, which is forbidden - something Tantawi refused to do in the Israeli/Pal conflict.
