Canada: Calgary’s Muslim mayor gives mosques permission to “break noise bylaws” during Ramadan

The Islamic call to prayer broadcast over loudspeakers for Ramadan is causing fierce divisions in Canada, as opponents, though reviled, are fighting back. Jihad Watch provided an overview HERE. Now, Calgary’s Muslim mayor, Naheed Nenshi, has given Calgary mosques permission to break the city’s noise bylaws and broadcast the call to prayer (adhan) over loudspeakers during Ramadan. As much as its proponents compare it to church bells and call its allowance “tolerance,” the adhan is a declaration of Islamic supremacy. Broadcasting it over loudspeakers forces everyone within earshot of participating mosques to endure the noise bylaws being broken to accommodate its volume.
A similar thing happened in Mississauga, Ontario, only that city changed its bylaws to accommodate the adhan. In Calgary, Nenshi gave “permission” to break the law.
The adhan’s content:
Allah is greater (Allahu akbar); intoned four times.
I testify that there is no God but Allah (Ashhadu anna la ila ill Allah); intoned twice.
I testify that Mohammed is Allah’s Prophet (Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah); intoned twice.
Come to prayer (Hayya alas salah); intoned twice.
Come to security/salvation (Hayya alal falah); intoned twice.
Allah is greater (Allahu akbar); intoned twice.
There is no God but Allah (La ilah ill Allah); intoned once.

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi has given Calgary mosques permission to break the city’s noise bylaw in its calls for people to pray during Ramadan.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. This year it runs from April 23 to May 23.
Five times a day mosques are to make a call for believers to come and pray – and Nenshi, himself a Muslim, has given the local community permission to break noise bylaws once a day by broadcasting the call over loudspeakers.
It was Calgary Muslim groups who asked Nenshi for permission to broadcast.
“Observing Ramadan is a very important time of the year, and I know Muslim Ummah are finding it difficult to commemorate this holy month without congregational prayer, breaking the fast with extended family and friends and gathering for Eid,” Nenshi wrote Muslim leaders in a May 8 letter obtained by the Western Standard.
“As an effort to spark some joy and community spirit in the Ummah, I have reached out to our Bylaw Team and have asked them to accommodate your request without infringing on the noise regulations…..
