Hi Sav,

figure either (or some combination thereof):

1. wstl has taken over where amtx left off... (think we can kiss this one off)

I doubt this is the scenario. Siemens has no time to wait for Westell. They previously ran with Amati before because the believed they had the most mature system. The other impression I had was that the Amati engineering staff really impressed them and made the Siemens people feel like they knew what they were doing. When I ask myself who's next, Orckit is the next obvious choice.

2. siemens/italtel is going it on their own... (unlikely now... tho a "maybe" longer term)

I seem to remember a press release saying Siemens was looking into making their own silicon. But I could be wrong. Short term, they can't survive on their own. At this stage in the game I just think it is just too late to reinvent everyone else's wheel. Footholds must now be cast in the different territories. If you don't do it early its going to be a bitch later trying to uproot somebody else.

for some time there have been hints that something might be up with orctf/siemens/italtel... and then in december siemens and orctf announced integration of orctf vdsl into a"jointly developed broad-band product..." link available on orctf website

that sounded promising and seemed again to hint efforts may be expanded beyond strictly vdsl...

I think so as well. So far for ME. Everything points to Orckit.

If I may I would like to add #5 to your list.

5 TXN/Amati produce their own product. Here I am in the dark. I have no feeling whether this is a possibility or not. A hint might be available if Vancouver/BC continues to install the Amati products in bulk.

Whoops, gota go now. Catch ya later -Eric
