Alistair,

Perhaps the Sullivan campaign of 1779 would be an example?

Perhaps, but there were no reports of significant killings - just burning down towns, crops etc to put the Indians on the British dole for the winter.

Pretty mild considering Washington was responding to the Wyoming Massacre which involved killing civilians, burning crops, along with torturing and killing any soldiers captured. All of this under the command of British Officers.

All in all one could easily argue that the enmity developed between the settlers and natives was developed when the indians were exploited by both the French and British for military advantage.
