Alex this sounds like a good idea but I think the big Kahuna has controlling shares and he is probably not interested in selling Java but I bet he might be interested in sell his windows products for the right price.

I am a Corel and Sun shareholder so the following statement is not biased to either company but what I think would benifit both companies.

IMHO if Sun were to take over COJ they would make a larger impact into MS office monopoly then Corel would be able to. I would even speculate they could split it or even lead it in a few years. Sun IMHO has the best hardware and experience in the computer networking field. Java and the NC was Sun's idea. Corel is fairly new in the hardware NC area but I think they could do a proper job but not like Sun could do.

Sun needs software to sell its NC and software generates big revenue if it's popular as you can tell by MS hoards of cash. I know there is Lotus and Applix and a German company I can't recall.
Lotus is IBMs baby so I don't think it counts. Applix and the German company products are not well recognized. WP is well recognized.

Here is the reasons why IMHO Sun could go farther with COJ than Corel.

1. Complete office package should provide less bugs that's why Corel wants to develop its own NC.

2.Sun has the really big bucks and alot of corprate contacts to market its complete office application better than Corel.

3. Corel is fairly new in the NC hardware area but I think Sun could do a better job than Corel. Sun has past experience.

4. Sun could use some of Corels NC developments such as the Video part.

5. You won't like this but it's partially true I said partially. Sun is a American company and Corel is Canadian. Americans are partial to American companies. (Beta Japan - VHS American)
