Seeing as how no one among the host of shorts now infesting this board has stepped forward to answer the simple question I posted in Message 13434051 i.e. why does one choose to short; I suppose I should proffer one possible scenario for consideration.

During my 14 months tenure on this and other stock message boards, I have come to the conclusion that the perceived anonymity and large audience acts upon certain individuals in the same manner as excessive consumption of alcohol. In other words, some posters here tend to bare more of their true, although usually concealed, nature than would be the case under normal circumstances.

Proceeding further with this premise in mind, I have come to the conclusion that the differing styles of investing (short vs long) may actually have little to do with objective rationales, since both types are obviously indulging in their chosen modalities in order to reap material gains. Is it a possibility that the true reasons for the divergent choices are actually buried within the personalities of the investors themselves?

To me, this premise is quite defensible. As noted previously, I feel that people in cyber-forums are more prone to bare their inner feelings than might otherwise be the case. In the course of reading the postings here and elsewhere, it has become evident to me that the shorts are by and large opportunistic in nature, both in their investments and in their interpersonal relationships. Their appalling lack of any sort of loyalty is evident, and has been amply demonstrated in recent posts. Although this appearance may be strictly for public consumption and not indicative of the persons crafting said posts, I tend to think otherwise.

I'm certain that this post will immediately be met with shrill cries of derision and denial. This is to be expected, as any attempt to seriously weigh its relative merit and validity would require one to peer through that most elusive and opaque pane within the Johari Window, the one through which one views one's own soul.

PS: Mary, this one's for you.
PPS: Can't say I didn't warn ya! : - )
