Actually, I would argue that the true "mother dough" is the Philadelphia soft pretzel. It puts all other soft pretzels to shame. (NY soft pretzels in particular -- if I may be so bold! <g>) Anyway, since you clearly have a fondness for sourdough -- I would recommend Jedediah's House of Sourdough if you ever get to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They're famous for their "sourjacks" (sourdough pancakes). Not my cup of tea -- but I've eaten there with friends who swear by them.

Personally, I can't understand why anyone would find sour bread satisfying!
