The President's Weekly Radio Address

RedState.org

President Bush's Radio Address this morning dealt with the Senate Republicans deference to President Clinton when he nominated lefty judges to the Supreme Court:
The experiences of the two justices nominated by
President Clinton provide useful examples of fair
treatment and a reasonable timetable for Senate action.
In 1993, the Senate voted on and confirmed Justice Ruth
Bader Ginsburg to the Supreme Court 42 days after
President Clinton submitted her nomination. And despite
the significant philosophical differences many senators
had with Justice Ginsburg, she received 96 votes in favor
of confirmation.

The following year, Justice Stephen Breyer was confirmed
73 days after his nomination was submitted, with 87 votes
in his favor. Again, Republican senators in large numbers
voted for confirmation of Justice Breyer despite
significant philosophical differences. These examples
show that the thorough consideration of a nominee does
not require months of delay.
The examples also show that the Senate generally defers to the President when advising and consenting for the Supreme Court.

Representative Bob Menendez of New Jersey delivered the Dem response invoked 9-11, something for which the President has been repeatedly attacked. He said that the Democrats are saving the nation from terrorist attacks: "Democrats will continue to lead this fight, just as we have on a host of other measures to protect America from terrorism." The GOP, Mendez recites, have opposed protecting the nation: "America needs a complete and total strategy to fight this enemy - not the partial strategy the Bush Administration is giving us today."

I'd call it shameless -- which the Dems surely would if it came from President Bush or Tom DeLay -- if it weren't laughable.

But you'll have these things on Saturday morning.
