Maybe your question has been answered, but in most cases I suspect the IT software runs and is sucking up data continuously (for the most part) and updating stock prices.

At the same time Netscape is running one or more windows for the brokers site, like DATEK, in which they do the trading.

I also will run other windows of Netscape like for SI, Quote.com Java site for real time when those daily data interruptions occur with IT, and Quicken to do some bookwork.

I don't see a problem in Win95 running numerous windows several of which access the my ISP connection at the same time. I don't turn one off and then load another. It's not necessary here to take one program off line in favor of another.
