Hammer was among the few people who did anything to try to end the cold war.

Exactly what did he do? And who was he trying to influence... the Russians or the Americans, or both? Was it in the interest of the Russians to lessen the degree of tension with the US on the political front, while they were pressuring US interests on a geographical basis?

I don't believe Hammer was some kind of puppet on a string... In fact, I imagine he thought himself to be the "puppet master".

Hopefully you can give us another explanation for why his daddy named him "Armand" Hammer? Baking Soda fan? But then where did Arm and Hammer baking soda get it's name?

But hey..... History is history... Personally, I don't have a dog in this fight. But I do question the level of intimacy that Al Gore has with OXY, especially the selling off US oil reserves in potentially manipulated autions that triple OXY's domestic reserves and made them one of the most profitable oil companies out there now.

As for exchanging nuclear missiles with Russia, don't you perceive the risk of that to be rather small with regard to deliberate attack?

I can see it from the view of someone accidentally lighting one off and the other side demanding the right to an equal retaliatory strike (eye for an eye).

If two people are holding a knife to each other's throat, it's pretty unlikely that one or the other will initiate an attack that would equate to committing suicide.
