Clark,

AT&T Paradyne is a very old name brand in leased line modems.
Their market share has been shrinking. However, they are still defending their territories. I have no concrete data about their current market shares.

The AT&T Lucent has pretty good modem chips covering up to 33.6kbps. They focus on a few key accounts therefore
it is not omnipresent like Rockwell modem chip sets.

I think Lucent may really own some valid patents in 56K. I have serious doubts on USR's claim.
I think USR is trying to confuse people with protocols and algorithms. My opinion is that protocol shall never be allowed
to be granted any patents. SInce it is a base for communication products to talk to each other.
A algorithm may allow you to have better SNR, etc, that other people may choose not to adopt but still can set up calls with each other.
