You are partially right. Cars on the line that aren't quite up to snuff are often assigned as Fleet and Rental cars. I rented one of the first Buick Reattas to hit the market as I was considering buying one. Total piece of garbage. Trim looked like it was all slapped on and the car made all sorts of strange sounds. Funny thing was that my manager at the time bought one a month later.

I have learned three things about cars over the years:

1. Vehicles with exterior body problems are often painted white because it hides imperfections best.

2. If you can you should rent a vehicle you are considering buying, and drive it hard for a day.

3. NEVER buy the first model year of any car.
