Corn, both sweet and yellow, grows very well in the south. As a youth I lived on small farm in the south and grew both cotton and corn while in high school. Now, most corn grown is sweet corn for eating and yellow corn for feeding deer, at least in this area. The larger farms now go for soy beans and wheat, but some upland cotton is still planted.
