mozek -

Perhaps you hadn't considered the reason I offered, or perhaps you could offer some rationalization for rejecting its likelihood over your suggested options?

You were apparrently answering a different question. Your explanation was "margins" but the statement I was addressing was:

AMD CPU shipments due for a rapid increase

So you are saying CPU shipments are due for a rapid increase because of margins? I don't think so.

Clearly something is restricting sales now. It's either demand or capacity/yield. For AMD CPU shipments to increase at least one of those limitations must be overcome. If demand is the limiter, it must be stimulated. If capacity is the limiter it can only be due to poor yield because we know the fab is capable of much more output. So moving to 90nm will increase capacity with the smaller die but how will a more complex and difficult process improve yield? The K7 core doesn't rely on a problematical SOI process so that may help yields but the ASPs will suffer and that won't help margins.
