(edit) AMD has been calmly moving towards this objective for several years now. Though inteL has been aware of the need for it, until recently, it has only seriously thought of multiple cores as an itaniC embodiment. Only extremely recently has it realized the urgent need for it in X86-64 miltiple core embodiments. inteL is almost certain to screw up to some extent; perhaps in a major way. Thermal heat is not the only heat that inteL is going to have to deal with. inteL is yet to prove itself under this kind of pressure.
