I used to think that it might be possible to destroy support for the terrorists by these extreme acts of counter terror. However, the problem is that the terrorists are being educated against the will of their families at a very young age. Parents are losing control of their religious practice and tradition to jihadi ideology that tears the youth away from their family. It would be a huge disaster to kill the families of terrorists. It is up to the families to teach their Shi'a tradition, Sufi tradition or Sunni tradition to their children. They are the ones that will tell their children it is unacceptable to kill brother Muslims that share different religious practices.

You can't win the hearts and minds of the Shi'a in Iraq by hurting them. Same with the Sunnis. Up until recently, nobody in Islam really understood that these jihadis are trying to purify Islam for their own control. They were confused with freedom fighters in oppressed Shi'a areas like Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine. Even within the Sunni minority in Iraq, the terrorists have threatened them if they vote in the general elections or go to work.

If anything, these events are going to reinforce the resolve to wipe out the AQ threat. It seems to me that Britain was just talking about withdrawing their forces from Baghdad over the next 18 months. Why would these jihadis blow up the subways in London now that the conflict seems to be winding down?
